Stern stands up to critics of his analysis

Some critics said Sir Nicholas chose a “discount rate” – used to translate the
probable costs and benefits of climate change decades into the future into a value
for today – that was far too low.   This, they argued, distorted the analysis in
favour of swift action.   Sir Nicholas argues that a higher discount rate, such
as used in some other economic models, made little sense in this case because
it placed too low a value on the lives of future -generations.
