Plymouth Airport runway deal agreed

7.4.2008   (UK Airport News)

The deal which will see one of Plymouth City Airport‘s runways closed and part of the airport land sold off for development has been
agreed between the city council and Sutton Harbour Group.

Airport operator Sutton Harbour Group said last year it wanted to exercise a
clause in its lease which allows it to sell off one runway and redevelop the land
to reinvest in the airport. The company says it has concluded negotiations with
Plymouth City Council for a ‘ground-breaking agreement which protects both the
current operations and future development aspirations of Plymouth City Airport’.

No one from the council or Sutton Harbour Group was available yesterday to explain
the detail of the agreement, but a statement said it ‘paves the way for the innovative
use of the airport and adjacent land for mixed-use development, and for improvements
to the airport’s facilities and services.
