New business aviation centre for Norwich airport
SaxonAir announced that it will construct a £1 million business aviation centre,
a facility that will benefit passengers and airline crew.
The company will also invest in the construction of a new hangar for the airport,
which currently serves cheap flights carriers Flybe and Thomsonfly.
SaxonAir was established 18 months ago, with its single jet having transported
prime minister Gordon Brown and singers Blondie and Meat Loaf. The airline now
says it wants to expand its charter operations from Norwich Airport.
Commenting on the airport’s expansion, Christopher Mace, SaxonAir’s chairman,
said the executive jet and business aviation market were set to grow in the coming
years.
“All these extra flights are good for us as they help generate extra income,
creating more jobs and turnover for the airport – and bringing in business to
this region,” he said.
The new aviation centre will be aimed primarily at business passengers who will
be able to enjoy its first-class facilities before their onward flight.
Spanish airline LTE said they would resume scheduled flights from Norwich International
in September after the carrier suspended flights earlier this month.
