Community meeting on Stansted aircraft noise on 23rd July

9.7.2010 (Stop Stansted Expansion)

Sir Alan Haselhurst MP will join local councillors, Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE)
and BAA to discuss the ongoing problem of noisy aircraft and the problems they
cause to the people of the Hallingburys, Hatfield Heath, Hatfield Broad Oak and
beyond at a special meeting in Hatfield Heath Village Hall on Friday 23 July at
7pm.

The issue of increased aircraft noise came to a head last summer after newly-introduced
departure practices for planes leaving Stansted coupled with the intrusion caused
by the ear-splitting Air Asia X Kuala Lumpur service left many feeling frustrated
and powerless to change the situation.

Since then, SSE and elected representatives have petitioned with some success
for the trialing of new flight routes to avoid the more densely populated areas,
some adjustments to the Air Asia X schedules and the deployment of mobile noise
monitors to provide a more informed picture of noise levels on the Clacton flight
path to the south east of the airport.

Almost a year since the initial community meeting – packed to overflowing – was
held, and following repeated requests, BAA has finally consented to meet local
people to give an update on the steps which have been taken.   Feedback will be
given on the measures taken to try to alleviate the situation and there will be
ample time for those attending to ask questions and give their views on the current
situation.

Uttlesford District Councillors Keith Artus and Peter Wilcock, plus Stop Stansted
Expansion’s own noise spokesman and technical adviser to the Stansted Airport
Consultative Committee, Martin Peachey will be on the panel, together with a representative
from BAA’s Flight Evaluation Unit at Stansted.   The meeting will be chaired by
Paula O’Sullivan, chair of Hatfield Heath Parish Council who is keen to welcome
all who wish to attend, not just residents of her parish.

In the meantime, SSE reminds people to continue to report noisy planes so that
the scale of the problem is officially recorded which can be done on the SSE website
at
www.stopstanstedexpansion.com.   This is particularly important in order to establish a clear record of noise
disturbance – especially at night, and not least given BAA’s plans to handle the
world’s largest Code F aircraft, such as the Airbus A380 and Boeing’s wide-bodied
747 800, as reported recently.

Further information is available from SSE on 01279 870558.
