John Stewart banned from USA – probably for life. For opposing Heathrow expansion.

John reports:

Just spent the day at the American Embassy in London.  Refused visa to speak at international noise conference in New York in August – the Inter-Noise Conference, a conference that is so respectable that it borders on the tedious!  Effectively banned from the US for good, they told me. Legacy of Heathrow 3rd runway campaign lives on!

So much for the USA being the home of democracy, and free speech. And the leader of the free world.

John Stewart refused entry to USA for speaking tour, due to visa problem

30.9.2011   John Stewart, Chair of both AirportWatch and HACAN, was taken off the plane on which he had travelled to JFK. John, who does not have a criminal record and
meets the requirements for the US Visa Waiver program, had his visa waiver rescinded mid-flight. He was questioned by the FBI, the Secret Service, and immigration for six hours at New York’s JFK Airport before being put back on a plane to London.   His treatment at the hands of the US authorities appears to be both harsh and
unreasonable. The purpose of his visit was a one month speaking tour.
