Frustration as Gatwick continues to blight communities with noise – new independent noise survey for residents
The Chair of CAGNE, representing communities affected by Gatwick noise in West Sussex and Surrey, has met senior members at the DfT to raise concerns about the continuing problems. A year on from the formation of the Gatwick Noise Management Board (NMB), Gatwick continues to ignore the people most impacted by aircraft noise, day and night 7 days a week – with no respite. CAGNE says Gatwick airport continues to focus on areas that already have respite from plane noise, with some seeing a decline in aircraft movements according to data from the CAA. To get a better picture of the problem, CAGNE has now launched an independent survey questionnaire for residents. It is being circulated to CAGNE members, parish and town councils via the CAGNE Council Aviation Forum. It is also being sent to MP in affected constituencies, asking them to encourage residents to take part in the survey. It is a huge concern for those already affected by the airport that Gatwick continues to push for a 2nd runway, (even if there is a 3rd Heathrow runway) and CAGNE will be attending the Conservative Party Conference to ensure that the community’s voice of frustration at Gatwick’s continued blight is heard.

The Chair of CAGNE, Communities Against Gatwick Noise and Emissions for West Sussex and Surrey, met senior members of the government’s Department for Transport to raise concerns that a year on from the formation of the Gatwick Noise Management Board (NMB) that Gatwick continues to ignore those impacted the most by aircraft noise, day and night 7 days a week with no respite.
Gatwick continues to focus on areas that already have respite from Gatwick’s noise, with some seeing a decline in aircraft movements according to data obtained from the Civil Aviation Authority.

CAGNE launch this week a resident’s questionnaire that will be circulated to CAGNE members, parish and town councils via the CAGNE Council Aviation Forum, to Members of Parliament and invite residents to take part in this independent survey of Gatwick aircraft noise.

Gatwick management,at the Westminster Energy Environment and Transport Forum, stated that they will seek a second runway with Heathrow expansion.
CAGNE has set in motion, once again, a plan of action to prove to Government that ‘#GatwickCant’.
CAGNE will initiate this message at the Conservative Conference in Manchester to ensure that the community’s voice of frustration at Gatwick’s continued blight is heard.

“It is very unsatisfactory that a privately owned company, Gatwick, can be allowed by government to blight peoples lives especially at a time when such uncertainty surrounding Brexit for the UK. Gatwick is still nearly 90% reliant upon European travel with CAA figures showing that more Brits fly out of the UK than foreign travellers entering. This illustrates to us that Gatwick is not a good neighbour as it blights tens of thousands of West Sussex, Surrey and Kent resident’s homes yet again with the threat of a second runway and by ignoring those that suffer the most from their noise currently.
“If the government is paying for the northern powerhouse infrastructure to bring growth and prosperity to all of the country and Heathrow R3, who will pay for the infrastructure for Gatwick 2? It will fall to us local taxpayers and the local authorities to pay and this is why we all have to say no again to Gatwick expansion.“
CAGNE will release the findings of the survey in due course and encourage everyone to participate in this independent survey.
