Government assumptions on future oil price:
- the Government's (BERR) Communication on fossil fuel price assumptions, May
2008: link
- since updated in July 2009 by DECC: "Our assumptions on oil prices in 2020 have increased from 72 $/bbl to 80 $/bbl (by 12%). The impact these have within the UK is also determined by the exchange
rate. Since 2008 the pound has weakened against the dollar causing higher retail
prices within the UK." link
- by contrast, the DTI made projections in February 2006, for oil prices to be
$35 through to 2020. link The Air Transport White Paper in 2003 was written at a time when oil was expected
to be cheap, and become even cheaper.
- the Government's response to question by Lord Berkeley on 4.6.2008 on the Rail
Freight Group website, which gives the low, medium, high and high-high forecasts

Comment on oil price and aviation growth, from WWF, 18.6.2008:
"The government's air passenger forecast assumes that oil prices today are only
US$60 a barrel and will fall to US$53 by 2012 and remain at that level indefinitely. At present, oil costs US$136 a barrel,
with some analysts forecasting prices as high as US$200 in the near future. (link)
