New Gatwick owner rules out second runway

Sir David Rowlands, Chairman of the Board of Gatwick Airport, says a 2nd runway will not be considered any time in the foreseeable future, and "We at Gatwick have not a shred of interest in a 2nd runway. It’s not government policy and it’s not in our policy. Even if the Government started to look more favourably at the prospect, we would have to think very hard about spending £100 to £200 million on a planning application with an uncertain decision."  8.2.2010  More ..... 
 

Gatwick airport submits application for North Terminal extension

Gatwick has put in a planning application for an extension to the North Terminal and other works to enable the airport to expand from its previous peak of 35 million passengers a year to 40 m, with 20,000 extra flights a year. The increase sought is larger than the total size of many regional airports, and will mean more noise, and more pollution. The impact of the application would be more than double the total climate change impact of Crawley Borough.  6.8.2009   More .....
 

London Gatwick Airport launches public consultation on its draft noise action plan

20th June 2009     Gatwick Airport has launched a 16 week public consultation on its draft noise action plan. The noise action plan, which is to be published to comply with the Environmental Noise (England) Regulations 2006, is a 5 year plan that the airport has to produce, to manage noise arising from aircraft departing from and arriving at the airport. The plan will be in line with guidance issued by the DEFRA in March. (BAA)

Gatwick Airport signs up to new legal commitments

"Sustainable development

Gatwick Airport Limited has signed a new legal agreement with West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council (following consultation with seven other local authorities). The agreement outlines how the airport's operation, growth and environmental impacts will be managed responsibly. It underpins the important relationship between the airport owner and its local authorities with responsibility for planning, environmental management and highways.
