Ryanair called on Europe’s carriers to put an end to fuel surcharges in 2008.
According to Ryanair, "high fare airlines across Europe committed their greatest
passenger gouging ever in 2007, jacking up their rip-off fuel surcharges to record
levels.

Ryanair’s Head of Communications Peter Sherrard said: "2007 has been the year
of the fuel surcharge scam as high fare airlines ripped off passengers with a
succession of unjustified fuel surcharge hikes when most of them were buying their
oil at USD65 a barrel, some USD25 below today’s prices.

"Ryanair is the only airline to guarantee no fuel surcharges ever and is today
calling on the European Commission to take action over these unjustified surcharges.
It the European Commission really cared for consumers it would follow the lead
of the US and the UK authorities who convicted British Airways and Virgin for
price fixing. Instead it continues to turn a blind eye to this fuel surcharge
scam".

According to Ryanair, over Christmas 2007, passengers were paying "up to EUR168
return in fuel surcharges with BA, EUR146 with Air France and EUR154 with Lufthansa
on top of their already exorbitant fares. Ryanair remains the only airline to
guarantee no fuel surcharges, not today, not tomorrow, not ever".

To celebrate Ryanair’s no fuel surcharge ever guarantee, the LCC is giving away
2 million seats for GBP10.
