Call for residents to register Gatwick airport noise

21.11.2008   (This in Kent)

AN ANTI-NOISE campaigner from Hever is encouraging anybody who is blighted by
the sound of Gatwick bound planes to register their views with a Government department.

David Baron, founder of the Gatwick Anti-Noise Group (GANG), is keen for residents
to take part in a consultation on airport noise being carried out by the Department
for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The views expressed will be taken into consideration when the department forms
its guidelines on noise levels for airport operators.

Mr Baron, whose home lies 12 miles from Gatwick, has continually lobbied against
excessive noise levels generated by aircraft which he says flout the rules of
how high they are allowed to fly over Hever, Chiddingstone and Marsh Green as
they come into land.

His campaign has received backing from local parish councils and MP Sir John
Stanley.

Mr Baron said: “At last Defra is listening to us, I am encouraging as many local
residents as possible to participate in this consultation and I hope there will
be a good response. Let’s get on with it.”

A spokesman for Defra said: “We welcome all views and comments on the proposals.”
