Airline announces new Plymouth to London City route

CITY airline Air Southwest has today announced it is ‘set to revolutionise travel between
Plymouth and London’ with a new route flying direct from Plymouth to the heart
of the capital.

The airline has announced a new twice-daily direct service from Plymouth to London
City Airport which it pledges will ‘fly to the heart of London in just over an
hour’.

The airline has also said the new service will provide a full business day in
London, which is ‘quicker than the train, cheaper than the train’, with all-in fares from just £29.

London City Airport is six miles from the capital city, and three miles from
Canary Wharf, with the nearby Docklands Light Railway giving easy access to whole
of London every 10 minutes.

Air Southwest bosses said that, from April 20, Plymouth City will be linked directly
to London City, twice daily.

Flying time from Plymouth to London City will be just over an hour, shaving hours
off the same journey by rail or road. Flight times will give business travellers
a full business day in the capital.

The new flights complement Air Southwest’s four times daily London Gatwick service,
which operates seven days a week from Plymouth and Newquay.

Peter Davies, managing director of Air Southwest, said: "This London City service
will revolutionise air travel between Plymouth and the capital. We expect it to
be hugely popular with business travellers and have timed the flights to fit with
busy working lives.

"Day-return rail travel to the capital is costly and time-consuming. With our
new London City service our customers will save hours of travelling time, with
great value fares. It’s also ideal for a short-break in London, and will help
to increase inbound tourism. "

Nigel Godefroy, chief executive of Air Southwest’s parent company, the Sutton
Harbour Group, said: "These London City flights demonstrate our commitment to
developing new and innovative air services to and from the South West, and our
support for the regional economy.

"The business market has been crying out for a service to the heart of London
and that’s what Air Southwest will provide."

Richard Gooding OBE, chief executive of London City Airport, said: "Air Southwest
passengers will be able to travel to London’s financial centres faster than any
other way with this new service.

"London City Airport’s close proximity to Canary Wharf and The City, with quick
connections to the rest of London and the South East, makes it an obvious choice
for the business traveller.

"With a check-in time of only 15 minutes, this new service will be popular with
commuters wanting to maximise their business day."

The new route, which will also operate from Newquay, has been warmly welcomed
by the South West business community and tourism chiefs.
