Three killed in Alaska cargo plane crash
on Sunday included the owner of the airline.
According to reports, a Fairchild C-123, registered to All West Freight of Delta
Junction, Alaska, crashed into the south slope of Mount Healy in Denali National
Park.
The accident occurred about 290km north of Anchorage and about 200 metres north
of the only road into the park.
The National Park Service confirmed that the plane burst into flames on impact,
starting a forest fire that engulfed almost 4,000sq metres.
Officials identified the three men who died in the crash as 61-year-old Bill
Michel of Delta Junction, 52-year-old John Eshleman, of Wasilla, Alaska, and 66-year-old
Paul Quartly, also from Wasilla.
Michel was the owner of All West Freight and the pilot of the C-123.
Eyewitness George Clare, of Las Vegas, said he saw the aircraft flying very low
and slowly as he was walking toward the visitor centre near the park entrance.
Within minutes, people came running in and saying that a plane had crashed.
The crash happened just four days after a military cargo plane crashed at Elmendorf
Air Force Base in Anchorage, killing four people onboard.

with stop overs. The cause of the incident is being investigated. The weather
was good. The pilot and co pilot are not very seriously injured.
