ELFAA announces year-on-year passenger increase for 2010 22 February 2011, Brussels – The European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) is delighted to announce a 6.1% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers for 2010, all the more striking since it took place in what
was a very challenging year for the airline industry.
“These strong figures further demonstrate that ELFAA low fare airlines are well on track to become the dominant force in intra-Europe scheduled air travel,” said Secretary General of ELFAA, John Hanlon. “At a time when other airlines are again falling back on Government handouts in the face of declining passenger numbers, ELFAA members are bucking the trend by showing consistent annual growth, carrying more passengers every year.”
ELFAA members’ load factor – the percentage of seats taken up on a flight – also increased by 0.3% to 82.3%, further underlining ELFAA airlines’ high overall and, especially, environmental efficiency.
“ELFAA members can genuinely be regarded as the standard-bearer for sustainable, well-run, and successful airlines,” continued Mr Hanlon. “We operate the newest and cleanest airlines around, and, bucking the global economic downturn, our success in creating significantly-improved connectivity has brought valuable gains to the economies, employment,
tourism and inward investment in the regions of Europe.”
