Datchet residents step up campaign against Heathrow Airport expansion
People in Datchet have been encouraged to send in responses to the Airports Commission consultation, to try to oppose a Heathrow runway – that would devastate their village. Datchet Parish Council has been helping residents to raise awareness locally about the consultation, with volunteers distributing 2,500 flyers. People fear a new runway would mean Datchet would be ruined, but they fear the Heathrow Hub option even more than the Heathrow north west runway option, because it would be 2 miles closer, with 50% more flights than at present, and at half the height – at about 600ft above Datchet. A resident commented: “We have a human right to a quality of life just like everyone else in this country and we should not have to live in noise and pollution hell! Does Heathrow expect us never to go outside?”

Flyers calling for villagers to take part in a consultation about the proposed Heathrow expansion have been dropped through doors in Datchet as the clock ticks down on the chance for them to have their say.
A total of 2,500 flyers were produced by residents with the help of Datchet Parish Council and have been hand-delivered by volunteers.
A banner urging people to ‘Say no to more Heathrow noise’ has been put up in The Green.
“It is going to devastate the village,” said High Street resident Anita Goddard.
“It is our children’s future, our houses and our lives.
“This is a major issue and if we don’t voice our opinion now, the decision will be made without us.”
The mother-of-three, who has lived in the village for 20 years, said she brought the consultation to the attention of the parish council at the end of last year.
“Both Heathrow options will ruin Datchet, but the Heathrow Hub option is shocking. Two miles closer, 50 percent more flights, half the height [at] just 600ft above Datchet and four times louder,” she said.
“We have a human right to a quality of life just like everyone else in this country and we should not have to live in noise and pollution hell! Does Heathrow expect us never to go outside?”
The Airports Commission Consultation opened in November and closes on Tuesday (Feb 3).
