Flybe suspends Inverness-London service

2.1.2015 (BBC)

Flybe is suspending its Inverness to London service due to lack of demand. Flybe said it was “regrettably” stopping the service from Sunday 22 February due to “lower than anticipated” passenger numbers. But the number of flights from Edinburgh to London City will increase to 6 a day as they had “proved popular” with customers.  “Overall, Flybe expects to fly at least half a million passengers annually on its routes to and from London City Airport. These services provide direct links across the UK and Ireland into the heart of London and offer a faster and cheaper alternative to road, rail and ferry travel.” And without needing more space at Heathrow, or at Gatwick.

Inverness Airport to get runway upgrade

6 November 2013

INVERNESS airport is to undergo a £1.4 million revamp of its runway ,as part of an overall upgrade of the site. The mile-long runway, which handles around 31,000 flights each year, will be completely resurfaced with fresh tarmac in an upgrade that is expected to extend its life for a further 20 years. The project, expected to last 12 weeks, is being funded by Scottish Government-owned regional operator, Highland and Islands Airports Ltd. Work has already begun on a £1.2m taxiway extension, which will provide a link from the main runway to the site of the Inverness Airport Business Park.

Inverness Airport set for longer opening time for night mail

15th April 2010

Inverness Airport will extend its opening hours to allow night flying if it wins
a major contract for mail deliveries. Post for the Highlands and Moray is currently
flown to RAF Kinloss, but the base’s contract for the service expires next year.
Highlands and Islands Airports Limited is keen to clinch a deal with Royal Mail.
It would mean the airport, which now shuts at 9.30pm, staying open during the
early hours of the morning when mail flights arrive. (P & J)   Click here to view full story…
