A link to Stansted will make access easier for people from the North East to London, but also to the area around Stansted, parts of Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire. Stansted’s MD Andrew Harrison said this will help business but also be “very popular additions to the route network for leisure connections.”  ie. boost holiday flights from Stansted. But one more reason why extra runway slots are not  needed at Gatwick or Heathrow, instead sensibly using space runway capacity at Stansted. Passengers will be able to fly direct to Essex for the first time in four years after the airline announced twice daily flights

Airline bosses are to reintroduce Newcastle’s direct link to Stansted Airport, with flights beginning again in spring 2015.

The North East has been without a service to the capital’s third airport for almost four years, since easyJet stopped flying it in 2011.

But now Flybe has announced it will take up the mantle, with twice daily flights from March 29 next year.

“We are delighted that Flybe have announced a new twice daily service from Newcastle to London Stansted,” said Chris Sanders, Newcastle International Airport’s aviation development director.

“This restores an important route for the region and one we know will be very popular with our passengers.

“The importance of good regional connectivity for the North East cannot be understated.

“Flybe’s new service will lead to significantly easier and quicker journeys to the area around Stansted which includes parts of Norfolk and Hertfordshire as well as all of Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

“There is the added bonus that Stansted is well connected to Greater London by excellent rail and by coach links.

“This is really excellent news from Flybe following their recent re-commencement of daily flights to Exeter and clearly demonstrates their strong commitment to regional connectivity.”

The news was also warmly welcomed by airport chiefs in Essex.

“This announcement is not only great news for our passengers but is a significant step forward on our ambition to transform Stansted and provide a richer mix of flight connections,” said Stansted’s managing director, Andrew Harrison.

“The arrival of Flybe onto the departure boards for the first time in the airport’s history, and launch of these new direct services to Newcastle is another significant milestone in achieving that ambition.

“There is great support from across the business community to see Stansted grow, attract more airlines, offer a broader range of destinations and increased flight frequencies to provide the choice and connectivity that business passengers rely upon to compete and win more business.

“These new services deliver that for the business communities we serve and will also be very popular additions to the route network for leisure connections.”

Flights will cost from £29.99 one way, including taxes and charges, and are available for booking at www.flybe.com .

Paul Simmons, Flybe’s chief commercial officer, said: “Bolstering regional connectivity is our number one aim at Flybe and we’re always looking for ways to improve connectivity within the UK.

“We’re really thrilled to be able to bring a year-round offer to Stansted Airport and look forward to welcoming passengers from Newcastle who are seeking easy access to Hertfordshire, Essex and London.”
