Bosses at no frills airline easyJet celebrated at Luton Airport after the carrier
reached a milestone of 500 routes.

Chief executive of the Luton-based budget company Andy Harrison marked the landmark
achievement with cabin crew, following the launch of easyJet’s new service from
Milan Malpensa Airport to Porto.

From Luton, you can fly to 38 different destinations with easyJet.

In less than 15 years, the airline has become Europe’s number one transport network,
now operating on 45 of the continent’s top 100 routes.

It has established 19 bases across 28 countries, and has a fleet of 182 aircraft.

Mr Harrison, who plans to leave his post with the airline later this year, said:
“To reach the milestone of 500 routes in less than 15 years of operation is an
achievement of which I am very proud.

“Our increasingly strong position in Europe is a result of focusing on destinations
customers find most attractive, at convenient times from the most convenient airports.

And talking of the future Mr Harrison added: “Now over 300 million people live
within an hour of an easyJet airport, which will enable the airline to grow by
a further 10 per cent and carry over 50 million passengers in the coming year.”
