ABTA doubts Heathrow third runway will be built

15.7.2009   (UK Airport News)

A third runway at Heathrow is increasingly unlikely to be built, as the Labour
Government ‘runs out of momentum’ and the Conservative party continue to pledge
to block it, Travel Weekly reports that an ABTA (Association of British Travel
Agents) spokesman has warned.   The group’s public affairs spokesman, George Blundell-Pound,
said political will is dying for the project.

Mr Blundell-Pound said the Labour government is running out of steam, and the
Conservatives, who are likely to come to power next year, are opposed to the runway.
He added: ‘Building runways is not a vote winner, so you have to believe firmly
that the benefits to the economy outweigh the damage to the environment.’
